Project Description
Heidelberg Retinal Tomography
(HRT)
The HRT is an important tool for detecting and managing glaucoma, it is able to detect the presence of optic nerve damage and whether this has changed over time. It is especially useful for assisting in the identification of glaucoma before it actually causes any detectable loss of vision.
HRT uses a non-thermal laser to scan varying depths at the back of the eye. The data obtained from these scans are then used to provide a 3-D image of the optic disc.
